Getting to La Cité de l’Histoire

To reach La Cité de l’Histoire in a wheelchair, with a walking frame or any other mobility aid, a dedicated route is provided from the Grande Arche de La Défense.

From the metro and RER

If you arrive at the Grande Arche by public transport — metro, RER or bus — an accessible route takes you to the venue entrance.

From the tram or by taxi

If you arrive via Place Carpeaux — exit lift from the tram and the other stations, taxi rank — a second accessible route takes you to the venue entrance.

Access restrictions and recommendations

If you are unsure whether a person with a disability can take part in an experience, please get in touch with your questions beforehand. The main cases are detailed below.

Virtual reality: we advise pregnant women, elderly people and people with psychiatric conditions, binocular vision disorders, heart disease, epileptic disorders or other serious illnesses, as well as people fitted with a pacemaker or a hearing aid, to consult a doctor before using a virtual reality headset.

Pregnant women

Pregnant women can enjoy the main experiences on offer without any problem. Depending on the stage of pregnancy, the virtual reality experience is not necessarily recommended: it can cause dizziness, and it may be preferable to borrow a wheelchair to enjoy it in the best conditions.

Motor disabilities

For people with a motor disability who do not usually use a wheelchair, it may be more comfortable to borrow one. La Cité de l’Histoire offers this service at no extra cost, but it must be booked in advance: select the "Wheelchair loan" option when purchasing your ticket. Depending on equipment availability, you may be offered a different time or even a different date. Visitors with disabilities are entitled to the reduced price on presentation of their disability card.

Epilepsy

The virtual reality experience is not recommended for people with epilepsy. There are no major contraindications for the other experiences.

Deafness

Deaf and hard-of-hearing visitors can discover La Cité de l’Histoire: the visual scenes, images, videos and texts are accessible to them. However, audio description of the various activities is not yet available.

Blindness

Blind and visually impaired visitors are welcome at La Cité de l’Histoire. They will be able to enjoy the sounds and music of the various experiences, but not the images and visual scenes to the full.

Heart implants

People fitted with artificial valves or pacemakers can discover the experiences. For virtual reality, they are advised to consult a doctor beforehand.

Learning disabilities

People with learning disabilities are welcome. Depending on their disability, it may be helpful for them to be accompanied so they can make the most of the various experiences.
