Step into the history of the Forbidden City
The experience opens with an introduction to Beijing's Central Axis, the symbolic line around which the imperial capital was organised for centuries. Your journey then continues with an immersive 360° film, told through the eyes of three witnesses from different eras: the missionary Matteo Ricci in the 16th century, the French painter Jean-Denis Attiret in the 18th century and a present-day traveller. From the monumental gates to the imperial apartments, they reveal the secrets of a palace long closed off from the outside world.
After the screening, explore an interactive area at your own pace to go deeper into your visit. Discover the history of the Ming and Qing dynasties, the architectural feats of the Forbidden City and a timeline setting the great events of Chinese and French history side by side. An original way to compare what was happening in Beijing while Versailles and the Louvre were writing their own stories.
To round off your immersion, enjoy an area inspired by the Chinese art of living, with a photo corner featuring traditional sets and costumes.
